Emily Holcombe correspondence, 1897-1901

Correspondence and papers related to the work performed by Emily Holcombe and the D.A.R. on the widening of Gold Street, Hartford, and the renovation of the Ancient Burying Ground. Includes copies of ciruclars sent to prospective donors, along with letters and reply cards from donors across the country. Many were descendents of Hartford's founders and were eager to assist the effort. The New York architecture firm of McKim, Mead & White designed the fence for the cemetery in 1901. Some of their correspondence with Mrs. Holcombe may be found in the collection as well.
